What does this mean?

Does having the fish on a bike sell more crackers? I'll never understand generalized marketing techniques...

Root Down

Back from Brooklyn for a week now. I had a conversation while I was there with Luke from Brooklyn Machine Works about how Adam Yauch from the Beastie Boys was a BMW investor for awhile before selling his stake to Pharrell. That got me on a Beastie Boys kick, so I've been listening to them all week. This has to be one of my favorites...

Let's talk about Empire

While I was in NYC last weekend, I stayed with Luke Stiles, the main man behind the Empire project. I got to see a bunch of the footage that he has collected thus far, and I can tell you right now that this film is going to be absolutely amazing. There's nothing like riding through New York City, and some of the best locals are captured in full HD working traffic like you wouldn't believe.

The Empire short that is included in the Bicycle Film Festival rules, so if you get the chance to get out and see it, make sure you do. In the meantime, i'm guessing it has been awhile since you've seen the original trailer, so let's do a little flashback action...

Ride Hills with Tracko

Kyle at has put out another batch of his "Ride Hills" tees... more info here.

Hey Kyle, can you do another shirt just like this one except with all straight lines that says "Ride flats Indy Boston NYC"?

Adidas Zeitfrei no collabos

If you couldn't cough up the megabucks for one of the Hypebeast/Solebox/Biachi/Adidas collabo Zeitfrei joints last month, then you can still grab a pair of the unhyped variety right now on for a much more reasonable $90. I like this colorway better than any of the others to be honest. That's not to say the others were bad, I'm just digging the black with blue highlights...

Whether you’re pegging the fun-meter on an all-city ride, or just kicking back and setting the gears to coast, the adidas Zeitfrei shoe laces you into a premium snug, quill-pedal fit with a stylish perforation design for breathability.

MKE Bruisers coming soon!

According to the Milwaukee Bikes blog, the new Bruisers will be shipping from the factory next week, and then of course they will be distributed from MKE once the have arrived in the shop. Apparently there have been some top secret updates to the bottom bracket area for the final production run...

If you pre-ordered one, you're super stoked right about now...!

Prolly put together a great edit of pretty much everything that went down during the BFF this year. So glad he did this, it was a killer weekend and it's nice to have some lasting documentation of everything that happened since my memory is garbage...

Mike has been on fire since his appearance in BSv.3. Super solid edit right here...

The NYC BFF in (bad) pictures

Took a lot of pics with my phone so I could remember what the hell happened while I was out in NYC for the Bicycle Film Festival. I'm certainly no professional photographer, but you can get the general idea of what went down. The full set can be viewed here.

Just got back from the Bicycle Film Festival

What an absolutely fantastic weekend. So many people there from all over the country that I already knew and got to catch up with, and so many more new people that I got to meet! Lots of photos from my trip will be posted tomorrow, so stay tuned...

Right now I have to go to bed.

I'm not sure why, but I like short vids of guys practicing stuff. I guess seeing determination and perseverance in someone else inspires me to go work on new things as well. Kyoichi Ozaki, getting after it...

This is the first of what I'm sure will be about a billion web edits coming out of BFF weekend in NYC...

See you guys on Friday!

If you've seen BSv.3, you know what these guys are all about. The CD drops on July 10th, but you can pre-order a copy here. And if/when these kids come to your town, make sure you catch the show... they're a shit ton of fun live.

More Freeman Transport caps!

Freeman Transport has come out with a new batch of their 100% wool ball caps...

I have one of the dark blue ones already and I love love love it. FT is going to be at the Bicycle Film Festival in NYC this weekend with a bunch of these new ones, which means I have about five days to decide if I want to nab the dark green or the jersey.

More info here.

Jesse Hilliard gets on it

The handrail that is. Mpls continues to blow up. More of him in BSv.3 of course...

Zlog is one

Has it really been a whole year for the Zlog Blog? Crazy. Congrats Zach! Oh, and when are those caps dropping?

Keirin racing video game

This probably falls into the "you've seen this already" category, but in case you haven't, check out this old school Keirin racing internet game called Line Masters.

Pedal with the space bar and steer with the arrow keys. Get yourself to the front of the line during the pace lap, and when it's go time make sure you're at the sharp end of the pack and pick up a queue. If you don't, you'll quickly be left in the dust.

The best I've managed is third place...

And speaking of Dustin/Cadence...'s a short interview with him from Shut Magazine...

I still miss Seattle...

Glad to see this sort of thing still going down in Seattle...

I'll always have a serious love for that town and the people there after my visit in the summer of '07. After Dustin/Cadence left for the east coast I wondered if there would still be continuity amongst the riders, and it's great to see that there is...!

Fixpatrix threads

Just spotted these on the Fixpatrix site...

Not sure when they drop, but it should be pretty soon...

Friends in low places

I think everyday I wake up wishing I could go back to London and hang out with the Fixed Gear London dudes. While Tom and I were over there, the FGL blokes were gearing up for the opening of Shop 14 Bike Co in the Truman Brewery. Sadly we missed the opening by a matter of weeks, but hopefully we'll get to see it in due time.

I got a care package from the Shop 14 Bike Co family the other day that included some of the newest Fixed Magazines (with an article about our trip over to Europe) and a Catlike Whisper Plus. Thanks a ton guys!

Keep up with the Shop 14 Bike Co blog they update quite frequently. Check it out to keep tabs on the new Goldtec parts and the Super Ted Designs (STD).

All City facelift

Jeff over at All City sent over some sweet parts for me to ride. Little did he know that it would be more of a get well soon gift rather than being ridden right away. I have been riding my old Bianchi road bike because it has been way easier on my broken leg. I just built up the Bruiser with some brakes to cruise around. There are some huge dents in the frame from my accident, but I think it will be manageable to ride in a few weeks when I am off the DL.

I threw of the new All City goodies on it. Double straps, newer clips, 144 BCD chainring and grips.

I have been riding the All City clips for a while and I really can't recall a better design that fits so snug around your feet.

Mike Carney hand rail vid

Super smooth...

Mike Carney has a solid part in Bootleg Sessions v.3, and he's completely taken it to the next level over the past couple of months. Keep it up Mike!

All-City Big Block details

Everything you ever wanted to know and more about the All-City Big Block frame can now be found on their website. Congrats Jeff, they look amazing! Love the dropouts!

Kanaly Design

Probably my favorite thing about being involved with the Bootleg Sessions project is coming into contact with so many different people who ride and learning what they do and what they're into. For example, I was recently turned onto graphic artist Kris Kanaly's website... he's done some really killer stuff. Here are a few of my favorites...

Meanwhile, in Mpls...

You knew this was going to happen. Prolly recently issued a challenge two days ago to see who would be the first (documented anyway) to do a handrail on an FG, and the very next day BSv.3 vets Jesse Hilliard and Mike Carney from Mpls produce photos...

Crazy. More at Bike Jerks.

Surf City

For those who haven't seen it yet, Bootleg Sessions v.3 kicks off with a song by a small band from New Zealand called Surf City. Here's a video that was made for one of the other songs off their debut EP called "Records of a Flagpole Skater". Love this groove...

More MKE soft good(ie)s

More new threads from the guys at Milwaukee... you know I love green, and the colored MKE logo shirt is super sharp!

These guys never stop. When you think about all of the things they've put out in the past year, whether it's frames, components, clothing, whatever, it's really pretty amazing. They're pushing all aspects of the brand all the time... very inspiring.

And don't forget, someone will be winning a new MKE Bruiser fork (amongst other things) tomorrow in our pre-order prize drawing!

Gotta love this vid, shot with a 16mm camera...

I love what those guys are doing with 14 Bike Co. Great stuff, looking forward to seeing more from them.

BFF NYC street party

I'm going to be in NYC for the Bicycle Film Festival again this year... can't wait! The street party was a blast last year, and I'm expecting this edition to be as good or even better...

Always something going down in Austin TX...

More action at

Milwaukee Stein bar ends

These came in the mail for me yesterday from the guys at Milwaukee Bikes. I obviously don't need to comment on the awesomeness that you see before you, they speak for themselves. Get them here.

If you're on the West Coast... may be able to get a copy of Bootleg Sessions v.3 before even I do! VAS Entertainment is doing the retail distribution for this edition, and since they're located in L.A., the shops on the left coast are getting the jump on everyone else. This pic is from the guys at Orange 20 Bikes...

Thanks to Kyle @ Tracko!

Reed Pages magazine

Another fairly interesting new magazine has popped up recently... Reed Pages from the Jeff Staples stable. It's made more interesting, of course, by the fact that you can read it for free online here. Note the extremely understated advertising and check the article about Brooklyn Machine Works.

Spotted at Hypebeast.

The Queen of Fixed Gears

I love all the Charge Bikes web videos. The aesthetics are a step above the rest especially when compared to Bootleg Sessions. Either way, here's a new video from Juliet who probably takes the worst fall in the newest Bootleg Sessions.

Photos from the Tour de Taiwan

Let me explain something to you. There are certain people out there who just don't f*ck around. When they decide to do something, they do it, and they go all the friggin' way with it. The guys from Nabiis are those types of individuals. They recently organized a ride across Taiwan called the Tour de Taiwan, and based on these photos I just received from Chek, one of the Nabiis crew, it looks like an absolutely incredible event. The backdrops are incredible, the jerseys are killer, and check out the team car!

More info about the tour here.
