FIXED

Got an email from Andy over at Fixed magazine with some teaser shots. Check out this one of Ted ripping some over vert.

Scarred for Life

I got my bike back from NYC yesterday, and at some point during the shipping process it managed to acquire a significant dent in the top tube...

Needless to say, I was pretty bummed when I discovered this.

Vans Fixed Gear shoes

Obviously I'm not going to get these since I'm all about the Adidas Superskate slip-ons, not to mention the fact that Vans doesn't even make shoes big enough for me, but I'm curious as to what everyone else's opinions of these things are...

How to Ride Japanese Style

Friend Shawn DaSilva, who lives in Japan, sent me a copy of the Japanese Bicycle Bible. It includes a section about how to ride a fixed gear. I can't help but wonder what this would look like if it featured the inimitable Tony Fast instead of this guy. I think everyone should learn how to knock their teeth out on the handlebars, crash head first over parking blocks, have their balls sucked into the frame, bust their seat with their ass, and get attacked by drunken pedestrians.

One of you bilingual types needs to translate some of this stuff for us...

Windyanapolis

Saw this on my way home today...

Fortunately it fell right between two houses and didn't appear to have crushed anything. The weather in this town has been nuts recently...

Rusty Redenbacher Spits the Truth

Russell Johnson (aka Russ Fabulous, aka Choc Soreel, aka Rusty Redenbacher) is the lead MC for my all time favorite hip-hop group, the Mudkids. I've been on these guys for over 10 years now and they still get me going. I'm probably not the best judge of who is or isn't a genius, but if anybody I know is one, it's Russ. Listen closely to the lyrics for "Another Journey," the song that's used during the SF/Seattle part in Bootleg Sessions v.2, and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

Anyway, Russ has recently started a blog, and it is a really good read. I'm not going to lie, I'm a big blog guy, I have about 30 that I check every day, and this one is quickly rising to the top of my list. It's like a crazy stream of consciousness with lots of killer music and media mixed in, and it's really well written to boot. Check it out here...

Prehensile Tales

And while your eyes are working on that, let your ears work on this... a serious new groove from the Mudkids upcoming record...

Summer

Learning new stuff hurts

I've been working on a lot of new things recently, and when I'm in that mode my lower legs usually take a pretty heavy beating...

The normal-looking spot in the middle of the biggest bruise is actually this huge knot that has formed in my leg from banging the top tube a few thousand times. It won't even bruise anymore it's so hard. I have a few of those now... I wonder if they'll ever go away?
