Not quite sure what Luke will have ready yet, but there will definitely be some new previews from the Empire project showing at Bike Shorts 8 in January...!

Fight with Flight video flyer

Red Bull is sponsoring a pretty major flatland competition that will be taking place in an airplane hangar here in Indy at the end of January, and they asked me to put together a short promo video for the event. Here's a clip of pro flatlander Andy Cooper riding in what has to be the coolest spot to hold a comp ever...

Stupor Bowl '09

The big one is back in Minneapolis. For more info, check the Bike Jerks blog.

And you thought WWII wreaked havoc on Europe...

This may be the best flyer for anything ever. Extended coverage of this trip will appear in Bootleg Sessions v.3... can't wait for that.

Odyssey Twisteds

Sad to say that after slipping a pedal and shredding my ankle/shin for seemingly the thousandth time a few days ago, the Ares 88s have been retired. I decided to go with a set of the Odyssey Twisteds as a replacement. Seems like everyone else is running them now, so I thought I'd give them a shot...

They are the same width as the 88s, but the contact patch is significantly bigger because they are squared off instead of rounded. I've only been on them for a day, but already they feel much better. They seem to have the right grippy-ness too, not too much, not too little... it feels like I can twist in them without slipping.

So far so good, but we'll see what I think in a month or so...

Chek @ Nabiis

X-mas is a time for thinking about others, so we all need to send a few thoughts out to Chek from Nabiis.net. I dropped him a note a couple of weeks ago and just got this reply back from him...

Hello Burd,

Sorry for the late reply. I recently had a very bad accident. I was in a coma for almost a month and had to relearn all the basic things that we do as humans everyday. But good news, a week after I learned to walk, I also learned to ride my track bike again. I am back in San Francisco for now about to get some more surgery. I will return to Taiwan fairly shortly. Thank you for your kind email. I will email you with news soon.Chek

Keep it rolling Chek, hope things go smoothly with the surgery!

Here we go again...

How many variations of this have we seen in the past couple of years? Gotta be in the hundreds. This one adds nothing new or even remotely funny to the mix.

Macaframa hits LA

Considering all the shit movies that have been coming out recently, Macaframa was probably the biggest premiere in all of L.A... Colby/Colin and crew are definitely blowing up big time. Awesome.

Cadence x House of Commons

This is really well done... Dustin from Cadence puts his mark on the storefront at House of Commons in Vegas.

A Profile Christmas

Got a really nice package from Profile this week, just in time for the holidays.

A set of the new fixed/fixed hubs in beautifully burly polished silver...

Stoked about what those are going to be used for... more on that later. Also got some logo shirts...

And last but not least, the new Chad Degroot signature seat. I've come to realize that for reasons I can't explain, I am probably more obsessive about my seats than any other part on my bike. This is literally the sixth different seat I've run so far this year. I have to say, however, that I'm pretty damn sure this will be the last swap I make. Love the materials used on this seat, especially the soft no-slip cloth around the bottom, and the subtle hand grips are perfect. Chad is a BMX uber-legend, so it stands to reason the guy knows what will work...

Raven Feeders

Fixed Mag #2 available online!

Killer issue. This thing is only going to get bigger. Huge props to Andy and the Fixed Gear London crew for pulling this magazine off... great stuff.

Download it here.

Mishka sneaks

I think the Mishka/Adio sleds turned out really well. Too bad they didn't make a set big enough to fit my canoes...

FIXION order info

If you're interested in getting a copy of the Osaka crew's new FIXION DVD, you can place a mail order from this website.

I believe they are retailing for approximately the equivalent of $30 in Japan. I am getting a promo copy, which I'm stoked about, so as soon as that arrives I'll post the lowdown on the contents...

New blog from Down Under...

If there's such a thing as a bloghead, I probably am one. It's always great to see what's going down in other parts of the world, and it's especially nice when they're written in English. Seems like half the bike blogs I look at now are written in a language I can't understand, but that never stops me from checking them out...

Nabiis x Subcrew

Check this out... Taiwan's Nabiis crew, who threw a killer premiere for Bootleg Sessions v.2 in August, turned up on Hypebeast recently as part of Subcrew's Fall/Winter lookbook. Nice work guys!

Custom Waterford

Saw this on velospace, a Waterford frame that was apparently custom built for doing tricks and such. The frame itself looks very similar to the Milwaukee Orange One, which I guess it should since Waterford builds the Milwaukees...

Fixed Gear Fight Club!

Well sort of anyway. The launch party for issue #2 of Fixed Magazine (which will be posted in full online very soon) took place over the weekend, and this is what our man Super Ted got himself into during the afterparty...

Untitled from Bertrand Clerc on Vimeo.

Brad Pitt's got nothing on Ted. Also announced over the weekend is the fact that Tom LaMarche has moved from Brooklyn Machine Works to Charge Bikes. He'll be rocking Charge's new frame very soon of course. Seems all the action is in London right now...!

Exhausted

Went on a nice long mountain bike ride this morning. Then rode into the City to ride some more. I'm exhausted. I've got a profile over on the Charge Bikes site up now. Too many blogs to handle, I'm turning into Prolly.

Mosher x Stan Bush

Was checking out this edit from Mosher recently, and I couldn't quite put my finger on where I had heard that song before...

Urban Velo brings the noise!

First off, let me just say that Public Enemy's "Fear of a Black Planet" is still easily in my top 5 of all time favorite albums, and that's saying quite a bit considering how completely ridiculous Flavor Flav has become. Well, I guess he was always ridiculous, but it used to be in a good way. Now he's just... ridiculous ridiculous.

So anyway, it took me about 0.5 seconds to order this shirt when I saw it posted on Urban Velo...

This seemed like such a hardcore record when it came out, and now this shirt makes it seem campy, but in a good way. A Flavor Flav circa 1990 way, not a Flavor Flav 2008 way. Yeah, you know what I mean.

Stuff that's dropping

Looking forward to the next couple of months when we should start seeing quite a few killer new things on the market for fixed riders. I'm sure you've all seen the Milwaukee MKE 700c unicrown fork that Prolly is now sporting...

My boys at Milwaukee also have a new frame coming out soon as well which should be amazing.

Charge Bikes also has a new frame in the pipeline, and I believe Super Ted had a hand in the design, so you know that'll be good.

Don't forget about the impending release of the All-City product line! I'm stoked to see the full spectrum of parts that our man Jeff Frane (who will appear in BSv.3) and his crew will be cooking up in Minnesota.

Not to mention Fumikiri, Macaframa, BSv.3, Empire, and a host of other vids that I'm sure are being conceived as we speak.

And those are just the few things that I thought of off the top of my head, I know there is a ton of other stuff that I'm not remembering at the moment. Point is, it's not slowing down much, is it?

Intro to Sneakers as a Religion

I like sneaks, there's no doubt about that, but last weekend I was introduced to some people who's passion for shoes goes way beyond anything I could have previously imagined.

Recently my friend Dave Jennings and I have been doing some work for Red Bull, filming local events that they are hosting/sponsoring and then either creating promotional DVDs or web edits for them. A couple of weekends ago we went to the Fall Sneaker Show in Indy where we set up a live feed from our camera on a projector screen so everyone in the place could see what was going on up on the main stage. Great event, a hell of a lot of fun, and it raised some serious money for a few local charities.

Here is an edit that we made for the Red Bull guys of what went down...

Winter sucks...

...which is why it's always good to have a friend with a nice big garage that you can mess around in. Just got back from riding at Andy Cooper's house, where I'll be camping out at least a couple times a week for the next few months...

And the winner of the prize package is...

This came in about 5 minutes after I finished this post earlier today...

Memphis: 1
Kanye: 0

Steppin' it up...!

In case you haven't noticed, I'm a pretty big adidas fan. Vulcanized Superskate slips for riding fixed, thicker soled Comptowns for flatland, and I think I'm gonna get a set of these for when I'm chillin' with the homies...

Actually, the gold-winged shoes would go pretty well with the gold New Era that Mishka dropped recently...

Seriously though, I'll put together a really nice prize package for the person who sends in a photo of him/herself rocking this combo**.

**Kanye West is excluded from this offer.

Persistence

When I rode flatland, I was always amazed by how quickly Japanese riders seemed to pick up on new things, and by how fast the Japanese scene progressed as a whole. The same thing is true now for the fixed gear thing, and I believe these two videos show why that's the case.

I think there's something ingrained in the Japanese psyche that makes them amazingly persistent about learning new things, to the point where creating a vid of them trying the same thing over and over until they nail it doesn't seem odd, but rather seems natural.

Maybe that's why I, and many of the rest of you who are into this stuff I suspect, identify with the Japanese riders/scene so much. If I get an idea for something new that I want to do, I pretty much can't get off of my bike until I learn it (or seriously injure myself). In America this means that I have an obsessive compulsive disorder. In Japan, however, I believe I would simply be normal...
