oi

Tom's new bike... and cast.

Tom LaMarche posted some pics of his new Charge Scissor prototype on his Charge blog. He also showed off his new wristwear in one of the photos...

In the blog Tom mentions that he thinks he actually broke his wrist about 4 weeks before he went to the hospital, which I believe means he filmed everything in his part for Bootleg Sessions v.3 with a crack in his arm. That's crazy. You'll see what I mean when BSv.3 comes out.

More pics and info here.

Pt. II of The Show Up Classic is going down this Saturday (March 28th) in Bloomington, IN. Show up if you can!

FUMIKIRI is coming April 10th!

Really fired up to get the full DVD of FUMIKIRI. Kyoichi sent me a copy of the main section a few months ago and it's very good. I think I've watched it about 50 times by now, no joke!

Note Tony's fancy handwriting. Lovely Tony, just lovely.

Downtube clearance...

...is fun.

Bad Music

Cahill sent me this link from The Come Up. It's talking about this band Kobra Kommander who has a song titled BMX not FIX. I dont get bent up over people bashing fixed gears, but I thought it was pretty funny how terrible this band is. Check them out if your into really bad music, and wannabe thrash bands.

BSv.3 Update

Well, we are working full bore on Bootleg Sessions v.3, which is why I haven't had as much time to keep this blog as properly updated as I'd like. Dave Jennings, who is doing the bulk of the actual editing for this volume, just put together a DVD of the four parts that we have fully completed at this point, and I personally think it's really incredible. It's hard to believe how much the way people ride has changed in the past year. Not only that, the quality of the filming has gone way up as well.

So far we have about 12 and a half minutes worth of video, which is a great start, and there is a lot more footage coming in this week. Our goal is to hopefully get the first trailer out by mid-April and have everything ready to submit to the replicator a week or two after that.

We will most likely start taking pre-orders right when the first trailer comes out, and we have something special hooked up for those who pre-order this time around. Everyone who submits an order prior to the release of the DVD will be entered into a drawing for some killer prizes. Right now those prizes include a set of silver Profile fixed/fixed hubs, a Mishka package, and something from Milwaukee Bikes (hopefully an S700 fork if they're ready in time). More will be coming as we get them hooked up.

Stay tuned...!

Villains & Co. Spring Sale

Witch Hunt Clothing

Duncan Lewis is putting the word out about his new project called Witch Hunt Clothing...

And my personal favorite...

Wrist watch

Found out today that Tom is going to have to have surgery on his fractured wrist. That sucks tremendously badly. Tony also tweaked his wrist on the same day that Tom broke his, and yesterday I jacked my wrist as well...

Not a good week to be the wrist of a Bootlegger.

Barcelona BSv.2 screening

A group of riders in Barcelona organized a tour around the city over the weekend, and afterward they held a screening of Bootleg Sessions v.2. Here are a few photos they sent along... thanks Simon!

Tom's wrist

Tom L. emailed me last night and let me know that he had fractured his wrist while riding on Saturday. Huge bummer. Prolly put this pic up earlier today...

Hope you get that healed up soon, Tom...

Burd's MKE S700 Prototype

I cannot possibly say enough about how much I love this bike. I'm not even going to try. What I will say is that I've been riding it for three days now and I'm already doing new stuff on it that I don't think would be possible with any other configuration...

Speaking of Joe's Cycles...

Tracko dropped a post about Joe's Cycles in Indy yesterday, and today I was in there having Joe and Shawn put the finishing touches on my MKE S700 prototype. More pics and info about the finished build later this weekend...

Thanks guys!

BTW, I just found out today that Joe scored a deal with Waterford to have them build frames for his shop. They will be branded as Cardinal Cycles. I saw the logo design work, and it is 100% money. The first batch will be coming in the spring... stay tuned!

Mishka NYC retail shop opens Friday

Friday the 13th no less. Very appropriate. My kid was born on a Friday the 13th. Not sure what that means... hopefully nothing.

Anyway, the shop is looking super sharp! Nice work guys! Can't wait to see it in person in a couple of weeks...

Villains!

Got a KILLER package from Jay @ Villains & Co. today. Check this out...

I love Jay's stuff, and I really like the way he operates. Very small runs of each design, only 25 shirts per, and when they're gone, they're gone. And he rides, of course. We all have to support our own here, so please show Jay some love!

Even Superted's not *that* crazy...

...is he?

Atomlab G.I. bars for your BMX stem

Found some "normal" 2" risers with a 22.2mm clamp diameter that will work with a BMX stem... the Atomlab General Issue riser bar.

Not too easy to locate a pair though, most places that list them are out of stock (even if it doesn't say so on their website, always call first!)

Atomlab also makes the LTD bar with the same specs which you can grab at Ben's Cycle, but the G.I. bars are a bit thicker (0.065" vs. 0.049") and will theoretically be a little sturdier.

Check out this MKE S700

Spotted this lovely piece of Milwaukee machinery at FixiePixie...

Now that's what I call attention to detail. Rocking the All-City cranks too. Nice. I personally don't spend a lot of time worrying about how all the parts look together on my rigs (mainly because I thrash everything pretty quickly), but I like this one.

The future ain't what it used to be - Part 1.5

In the grand scheme of things fixed gear bike tricks are still relatively juvenile, hence I am having trouble keeping my timeline straight (I am going to have to back track since my last post). Albeit messengers and fixed gear enthusiasts have been trying to defy the laws of gravity on the their bikes for quite some time, but it wasn't until recently that tricks became established as a sect of fixed gears. For the longest, fixed gear tricks were a minute allotment of grander events like Monstertrack and the NACCCs.

In the past few years, events have been popping up where the main focus is doing tricks with some side events for going fast. On the west coast Dustin and Cadence were welling up interest in fixed gear freestyle running the Fast Friday while blogger extraordinaire John Prolly was getting the ball rolling on the east coast with Peel Sessions.

The Mash trick jam was preceded by an alleycat, but Peel Sessions was specifically meant to showcase fixed gear tricks along with some trackstands, footdown, skids, and sprints. Prolly picked the coldest, windiest day for a bunch of bike dorks to sit under the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and compete for a whole ton of schwag.

John had let us know about this event about a week in advance. Tom and I had been deliberating about taking the ride up to NYC with hopes of getting back to Philly in time for me to get to work and Tom to get to high school. At the 25th hour, Tom called me and said his friend Cahill was going to drive up. They picked me up at Drexel and we cinched the bikes to the trunk with an army of tubes stacked onto the trunk of a ragged old saturn that made noises that woke the dead above 3000 rpm. We forged through Philadelphia and Central Jersey traffic, stopped to grab some pizza around New Brunswick, and on the last leg of the trip sat in the worst fucking traffic ever in Staten Island.

We made it to Peel Sessions with some time to spare, Prolly was setting up to take control and we went and dicked around at Brooklyn Machine Works. After about an hour we headed under the BQE where hoards of people were starting to congregate. The most amazing thing about this event was, IT STARTED ON TIME. How often can you say that happened?

The event went off with out a hitch. Everyone had a great time and everyone left with something thanks to the generous sponsors. A full recap can be found at John's now defunct blogspot url. There are ton of pictures from Jose once again. In fact as we were packing up for the ride home, now with Wilis aboard, Jose snapped a pick of the bike rack and it went on the be the Bootleg Sessions v1 cover. We all thought that the janky set up captured exactly how we pictured the Bootleg Sessions even to this day. On top the pictures, there is a video of Wilis's flawless winning flatland run from the one and only Jonnystiles.

We wound up getting home around 4am and some how making it to our respective jobs the following day. It is safe to say that stopping for Fat Sandwiches at Rutgers gave us the fortitude to make it on with our normal lives.

It's great to see that a number of Peel Sessions have happened since. This is event is certainly a great model for future events. However, it is getting to the point where tricks are leaving the ground and events are going to have to expand onto other terrain.

Nike X Superted

Spotted this originally at Tracko, details found here...

The Nike City Tiempo, developed with input from 8 bike riders from around the globe, including Superted and Massan! Digging the gray with black/green highlights...

The Cutter /City Tiempo

Developed specifically for this Livestrong Collection, the Nike Sportswear footwear design team looked at the Nike Tiempo, first launched through the Soccer category, and enhanced the shoe with key elements to work with today’s inner city bike rider.

Developed in partnership with eight bike riders from around the globe, the Nike City Tiempo was constructed with a board last, a process referencing ACG’s history. The board last translates into a stiffer construction, making the pushdown of the pedal stroke easier on the rider. Throughout the construction of the shoe, designers have increased the density of the rubber and the derometer. Inside the shoe, the sockliner has been updated to also be a bit stiffer, giving support to the foot.

The upper of the shoe mirrors the look of the original Tiempo, however has been updated with a tougher leather to last though the wear and tear the cages on the pedals may cause. The city Tiempo pack includes eight colorways with Livestrong branding. Each color represents a different rider and their respective city. The right riders include; Kyle Demers from New York City, Jupiter Desphy from Los Angeles, Superted from London, Takaharu “Hal” Okada from Tokyo, Yorgo Tloupas representing Paris, Berlin’s Henrik Kuerschner, Massan from San Francisco, and Lance Armstrong representing his hometown of Austin.
